Every month Microsoft releases a wide range of software updates as part of the process that is generally known as patch Tuesday. Analysis over time has shown that a large number of these updates are security related.

Software updates that are released by Microsoft every patch Tuesday have an executive summary that provides an overview to the patch. An example is -

“Users whose accounts are configured to have fewer user rights on the system could be less impacted than users who operate with administrative user rights.” (As an example see http://www.microsoft.com/technet/security/bulletin/ms10-053.mspx )

Analysis of the patches publish show that by removing administrator rights companies will be better protected against exploitation of over 90% of vulnerabilities in all versions of Internet Explorer.

Application Control Solution from Arellia provides a set of privilege management features so that the system administrator can remove local administrator rights from the end user and control rights on a per application basis. This reduces the surface area for malware attacks.

Manchester, UK (OPENPRESS) May 14, 2010 — The latest addition to Codework’s rapidly growing security vendor set is Arellia Inc. with their Application Control and Local Security solutions

Application Control Solution provides software privilege and rights management so you can control how applications function in your environment. The solution allows you to manage sensitive resources and functions and control access to them. By demoting or escalating rights and privileges of applications, they can be run without administrative privileges or escalating older applications to the administrator in order for them to function.

“Arellia’s entire focus is on continuous improvement to its security and configuration management solutions to provide an ideal and essential complement to the Symantec Management Platform,” said Dwain Kinghorn, SageCreek and Arellia Board Member.

“Arellia’s understanding of the Symantec and Altiris platform is unsurpassed, and the company’s ability to add new levels of control and protection to the Win7 environment and to the SMP 7 platform will contribute strongly to customers’ continued investment in Symantec’s systems management technology.”

“Our experience with supporting Altiris and Symantec in the UK market spans over ten years, so we are delighted to help our longstanding customers extend and enhance their investment in the Symantec Management 7.0 Platform by adding Arelia to our portfolio,” says Divyesh Lakhani, Sales Director at Codework.

-Company Increases Application Control and Security with Concept of New “Orange Listing”-

April 13, 2010, LAS VEGAS - Arellia, the company that provides Application Control Solution and Local Security Solution for the Symantec™ Management Platform (SMP), now provides support for SMP 7.0. Arellia is unveiling its 7.0 support as a Gold Sponsor of the Symantec Vision Conference in Las Vegas this week.

Formerly an integrated OEM component of SMP, Arellia became a third party Symantec Development Program partner in Q4 2009 and is now providing Local Security and Application Control Solution through Symantec and its channel partners as a third-party solution. With the advent of SMP 7.0, Arellia is taking its support to another level with the concept of “Orange Listing.”

There is a wide gap between white listing supported apps and black listing of unsupported apps. Many black listed apps are not supported simply because they are not yet known or tested. With Arellia, you have the ability to tag new or unknown applications for higher scrutiny and uniquely controlled access to run on desktops safely, securely and with full capabilities.

“While we are all familiar with the concept of white and blacklisted applications, Arellia is pioneering the concept of ‘Orange Listing’ that in today’s environment addresses the largest group of applications in IT environments. Orange Listing allows IT administrators to apply a higher degree of security to their applications,” said Jeff Adcock, Arellia’s General Manager. “Particularly in the Win7 environment, many applications are not going to meet traditional white list standards as Local Admin rights are defaulted to off as the risks of over privileged desktops have become more apparent. Application Control Solution lets administrators vet a new application, grant the application only the permissions it needs to run properly-rather than having to give the application blanket permission on the desktop or no permission at all, as you would have to do in the traditional white list/black list view of the desktop security world.”
